Staff are friendly but can't help solve the problem. I like that they send surveys to see how you're getting on, but don't follow through with it. The buck doesn't seem to stop with anyone.
The helpdesk staff are not equipped to solve problems which is frustrating. You fill out a detailed brief of the help you need and the helpdesk people do not have the knowledge, skills or experience to think on their feet or to get the right person to solve the problem. After spending time realising the support person can't help you, you're then told the time is up leaving you, as a small business owner helpless. Cue the watching of Youtube videos from others which sometimes has helped. The prospect of moving to another CRM provider is daunting which is the only reason we are still paying for this 'service'.
It's boiled down to us using AC to send a blog each week, which is a waste. It's useful to see the stats of this but you don't know what you don't know. It's like having a Ferrari in the driveway but not using it. I moved from another CRM provider many years ago because I liked AC's simplified CRM but it's still unclear what the benefits are to us in our business - despite me explaining what our business does many times over the years.
Initially it seemed well set up with a great onboarding process & what seemed like a responsive customer service team - the tool feels at first glance to be intuitive and seemed like they would solve a lot of sales and marketing requirements within the business
* Misinformed about product capabilities during onboarding leading to 20+ hours of wasted setup * During the last 6 months, we have had a total of 9 critical bugs escalated to engineering, none of which have had a resolution - some of which are very basic platform functionalities such as reply tracking, link click tagging * Customer service unresponsive once bugs raised and very very slow to respond - so you end up paying for a platform that doesn't serve it's purpose due to the bugs and you are essentially continuing to pay your subscription waiting to hear back from customer service * Essentially the platform constantly rolls out untested updates - it feels like a business that has grown way too quickly with little consideration for product management and comprehensive product testing creating a lack lustre experience for customers * Now we are left with another procurement and migration exercise to find another tool that we can use given that Active Campaign has failed us so completely * I would never, ever recommend this platform to anyone - AVOID AVOID AVOID
Marketing and sales automation - in theory it should have been the answer to our prayers, the reality was quite different
Automation feature works fairly well. Software is organized.
Support is horrible. I had sending issues due to hitting my contact limit. I wrote in to support on multiple occasions to get upgraded, but I never got a reply. All my automations stopped sending out because of this.
Creating email automations
1) The website tracking and segmentation /tag management 2) They have premium support
1) The forms are the worst in the industry (no drag and drop, CSS is somehow a must) 2) They are not flexible - they charge for number of subscribers, no matter how many emails you send/month 3) Starting 5000 subscribers, their plans are a NO NO comparing to the alternatives on the market 4) You need minimum the Plus plan if you want to take advantage of its capabilities 5) When you are close to reaching a new contact limit, they don't send ANY notifications via email, only in their interface. 6) When you surfaced the maximum number of contacts, campaigns cannot be sent, and contacts will not enter automations. 7) You are somehow censored. If you post something negative about AC in their official FB group, it will not be approved. 8) A few weeks after my review, I got this message from them (review manipulation, even if they say "positive or negative"): "Hi, Thank you so much for choosing ActiveCampaign as your Customer Experience Automation platform. We’re grateful to have you as a part of our community. We'd greatly appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to write an honest review (positive or negative) for ActiveCampaign on G2. Your review will be a huge help to other businesses researching software and services for their companies' needs. We would love to have you share your experience on G2 here. As a token of our appreciation for your time spent away from your business to complete this review, we'll send you a $25 Amazon gift card*. Feel free to mention that you received a gift card as thanks for your time spent completing your review. Once you've completed your review, please reply back to this email with a link to your review and your preferred Amazon region so that we may send you your gift. "
1) It's easy to integrate with most of the platforms 2) They have site tracking in place 3) If the email is in a public database, the social media handle will be shown (very nice feature while checking unhappy customers)
The only upside on active campaign is the effort that they put in the software.
Customer service is lacking tremendously. When you first sign up for Active Campaign, you will have a person call you to welcome you to Active Campaign, but I promise you one thing. If you start asking questions, they do the same thing that most software companies do. They will pretend they disconnected by not saying anything and wait for you to hang up. I had a girl called Maggie with the phone number ending in 210-7823 do this to me. The number one reason they do this is that they just want you to hire them for professional help and pay for the subscription at the same time. No such thing as customer service with software companies like this. You can hire outside of the United States from like India to manage your account with Active Campaign. Do no rely on customer service with Active Campaign to help you with anything. They will just put you on mute. Waste of time.
automations
Nothing. It is not customer friendly, illogical and very VERY slow...
It is NOT customer friendly, NO customer service either, and PAINFULLY SLOW to put automations together... NOT happy at all!
I wanted an automation software and apparently some people like AC, so I followed their advice, although in retrospect I should have chosen Mailchimp
Works as well as any other marketing automation solution
Won't let you use rented/purchased lists, and doesn't provide support on how to fix this
Upgrading from Constant Contact to send better emails
Although very limited to what it can do, its set up to where you know where you need to go to do what you need to do.
No pop-up tasks. These worked very well well for with Salesforce No ability to set projection, to track leads and configure terminology to match how we speak at this company.
It does give me a place we can send new leads, although I have been working them outside of the system in an excel.
there is a fair bit of flexibility in segmenting lists.
We have an old CMS that doesn't want to play nice with ActiveCampaign, so we experience many, many problems. We also have difficulty getting unsubscribes to work which is a HUGE problem, for obvious reaosns
Active Campaign helps us navigate the spam filters, however we have trouble establishing reliable open rates.
THEY ARE GREAT AT NOT GIVING ANY SUPPORT
They do not respect or care about their customers.
None. Get Mailchimp
It was easy to use. Also, we really liked the point system. Wish we could have continued using the application.
Didn't allow us to use leads from trade shows that didn't fill out an online form.
We were trying to solve campaign automation issues and lead quality identification.
I did like the split a/b testing capacity, which I think is better than Constant Contact. Their automated campaign integration did seem slightly ahead of MailChimp.
Very dissatisfied with ActiveCampaign reporting capabilities. Key insights of campaign performance such as bounce and spam complain rates are not available. Very difficult to assemble a comprehensive campaign summary that shows industry standard KPI's include campaign deliveries, bounces, opens, clicks, spam report rates, and ecommerce conversion data, much of this data is not available and it is certainly not available via a cvs file export like MailChimp, Hubspot, and Salesforce. Their support team did not effectively respond to my request for data. There ability to effectively render emails for mobile and desktop is questionable.
A client asked me to assemble a performance report of his automated campaigns so we understand their performance and prioritize their development.
I like that we are able to set up automated emails that go to our members when they register.
-Required to manually type in "from" name and email address - room for mistakes -Have to create a template and then create a campaign separately - adds extra steps/time -The website is incredibly slow and the support team has been relatively unresponsive and unhelpful.
Ability to set up automated emails that are sent to members when they register
ActiveCampaign is generally a pretty nice entry level platform that can be budget friendly at lower levels of usage.
If you are looking for a solution that will provide robust third party integrations and / or significant reporting, steer clear. The platform is very prone to bugs, glitches, and changes in what it is capable of doing or integrating with. On a fairly regular basis, lines of connection within an automation will vanish, conditions and rules are not applied, and most troubling, activity (opens, clicks) is not accurate.
We began with relatively basic marketing needs, but as we grew, the platform's flaws became very apparent. There are deeply seeded issues with deliverability that seem to be compensated for by 'spoofing' opens and clicks. When we reach out to a contact who is represented to have engaged with a campaign, they rarely confirm that activity. This has made our email program more of a liability than an asset.
They had nice looking layouts and the system wasn't too difficult to use.
We received some bad customer service from someone. We had just set up an account with them, and were wanting to call them for some help getting it set up. They told us we would not be able to call them as we did not have the enterprise subscription.
